Free Crochet Pattern – Newborn Booties (for 0 to 3 months old babies)

Hi everyone, today I want to share with you a cute crochet patterns for baby booties. You can make this within an hour as a gift for newborn, bring it to a baby shower and everyone will love it. For this free patterns, I also mentioned the way to convert UK terms/US terms so everyone can benefit from it. I hope you will make it today and like the results. Safety Note!

Please use yarn that is soft, non-toxic, and suitable for babies when making this project.

For safety reasons, avoid using small objects such as buttons, as they may pose a choking hazard. The buttons shown in the photos are for demonstration purposes only. Instead, I recommend using a soft, crocheted button made from leftover yarn.

If you choose to use buttons, please ensure they are securely and tightly sewn onto the strap to prevent any risk of them coming loose.

Dimension: please see photos (longest length: 7.5cm // Width:  5cm — if you use the recommended yarn below. If you would like the shoes to be bigger, please adjust the yarn and  crochet hook size accordingly).  

Level: Beginner

Materials: 

  • Crochet hook size 3mm and 3.5mm
  • 2 handmade crochet buttons (please see safety note above) 
  • Phildar yarn (Phil Lambswool size 3) 51% lambswool, 49% Acrylic. 1 skein in each color Grey & White – or any color of your choice. 
  • Sewing Needle 
  • Scissors

UK US CONVERSION REFERENCE

UK dc  (double crochet)      →  US sc  (single crochet)

UK htr (half treble)         →  US hdc (half double crochet)

UK tr  (treble crochet)      →  US dc  (double crochet)

UK ss  (slip stitch)         →  US sl st (slip stitch)

UK ch  (chain)               →  US ch  (unchanged)

UK htr2tog                   →  US hdc2tog

Techniques used here and for this patterns, it’s all written in US terms
ABBREVIATIONS

ch       — chain

sl st    — slip stitch

sc       — single crochet          (UK: dc)

hdc      — half double crochet     (UK: htr)

dc       — double crochet          (UK: tr)

hdc2tog  — half double crochet 2 together / decrease  (UK: htr2tog)

beg      — beginning

st(s)    — stitch(es)

WS       — wrong side

[ ]      — stitch count at end of round

The patterns: 

For each shoe, make 2 SOLES, one with 3.5mm crochet hook and one with 3mm crochet hook. Please refer to my Youtube video crochet along for this patterns if you are unsure of anything. 

We make 2 soles to join together for extra padding.

Foundation row: Ch 9.

Round 1: 2hdc in 3rd ch from hook (missed ch does not count as

hdc), 1hdc in each of next 5 ch, 6hdc in last ch; turn to work

in the remaining loops on the other side of the foundation chain,

1hdc in each of next 5ch, 3hdc in last ch, sl st in top of beg

ch-2 to join. [22 sts]

Round 2: Ch2 (counts as hdc), 1hdc in st at base of ch, 2hdc in

next st, 6hdc, 2hdc in each of next 7 sts, 6hdc, 2hdc in next

st, sl st in top of beg ch-2. [32 sts]

Round 3: Ch2 (counts as hdc), 1hdc in st at base of ch, 2hdc in

next st, 9hdc, 2hdc in each of next 11 sts, 9hdc, 2hdc in next

st, sl st in top of beg ch-2. [46 sts]

Fasten off.

NOW, JOIN SOLES

To join the 2 soles, with Wrong Sides facing together, join the 2 soles with sl st through both soles, starting at the back centre stitch. Ch1 (does not count as st), 1sc in each stitch around, sl st in first sc to join. Fasten off.

SHOE UPPER

Turn the joined soles so that the bigger sole (the one made with 3,5mm hook) is facing you and continue working with a 3.5mm hook

Round 1 (Working through back loops only for this round):

Ch1 (does not count as st), 1sc in each st around, sl st in

first sc to join. [46 sts]

Round 2: Ch2 (counts as hdc), 1hdc in st at base of ch, hdc2tog,

41hdc, hdc2tog, sl st in top of beg ch-2. [45 sts]

Round 3: Ch2 (counts as hdc), 1hdc in st at base of ch, hdc2tog,

7hdc, (hdc2tog) 12 times, 7hdc, hdc2tog, 1hdc in last st, sl st

in top of beg ch-2. [31 sts]

Round 4: Ch2 (counts as hdc), 1hdc in st at base of ch, hdc2tog,

4hdc, (hdc2tog) 8 times, 4hdc, hdc2tog, 1hdc in last st, sl st

in top of beg ch-2. [21 sts]

Change to Yarn B.

Round 5: Ch1 (does not count as st), 1sc in each st around,

sl st in 1st sc to join. Fasten off.

SHOES STRAP

With a 3.5mm hook and Yarn B, ch13.

Row 1: 1sc in second ch from hook (missed ch does not count as

st), 1sc in each ch to end, turn. [12 sts]

Row 2: Ch2 (counts as hdc), 1hdc in each sc across. Without

turning the strap: ch4, sl st into first ch of foundation chain

to make the button loop. Fasten off.

FINALLY, 

Sew the buckle strap onto the front of the shoe wherever you

would like it. For the button loop side, sew the button directly

onto the shoe upper, level with the other side of the strap.

Make the other side of the shoes to complete the pair.
